"At Waters Edge" was a project done combing two things I love very deeply: the ocean and the many cultures represented and present in my home of Queens, NY. Many cultures have objects or trinkets that represent protection, so I took that concept and applied it to the plants that protect New York's coastline from erosion. I created little water protector talismans that represent some native plants along New Yorks coast. In this project I wanted to inspire joy and happiness. Below are progress pictures and final pictures of the sculptures I made for this project.
Progress pictures after bisque fire and before glaze fire.

The artist residency was only four weeks, due to this time limit I was not able to make all the sculptures I had wanted to, so below are finished paper illustrations of some more water protector talismans I hope to make I hope to make many, many more in the future.
In the future I hope to explore these sculptures in ways more directly related to conservation efforts, like perhaps making these sculptures in a way that they can grow protective or heat resistant corals.
